PRI Enterprises Marks 45 Years of Workforce Development and Reentry Success
PRI Enterprises is celebrating 45 years of partnering with the State of Florida to provide workforce training, vocational education, and employment opportunities that help prepare incarcerated individuals for successful reentry into their communities.
Since beginning operations in 1981, PRI has focused on creating pathways to employment through industry recognized training programs, hands on work experience, and skill development opportunities designed to meet the needs of Florida’s evolving workforce.
Over the past four and a half decades, the organization has expanded from a small number of correctional industries into a statewide operation that today manages dozens of industries and programs across correctional institutions throughout Florida. The organization’s mission remains centered on helping participants develop marketable skills that can lead to employment opportunities after release while reducing recidivism and strengthening communities.
As part of this milestone year, the organization has also completed its transition from PRIDE Enterprises to PRI Enterprises, a name that reflects both its history and its continued focus on combining enterprise with mission driven workforce development.
Throughout its history, PRI has continually adapted its programs to align with industry trends and workforce demands. Recent years have seen the introduction of several innovative training initiatives that reflect changing employment opportunities across Florida.
One example is PRI’s diesel mechanic training and certification program, launched in 2023. Developed in partnership with Palm Beach State College, the program combines classroom instruction with hands on technical training, allowing participants to work on real equipment while learning skills sought by employers throughout the transportation and construction sectors.
Participants may earn college level credentials as well as Automotive Service Excellence certifications, helping prepare them for entry level careers in a field that continues to experience strong workforce demand.
Another significant addition is PRI’s Tiny Homes program, which began facility construction in 2024 and completed its first pilot home in 2025. The initiative was designed to provide practical construction experience while supporting workforce development in the skilled trades.
Through classroom instruction and hands on production activities, participants learn foundational construction skills such as blueprint reading, building techniques, and manufacturing processes. As the program continues to grow, it is expected to create additional opportunities for workforce training across the correctional system.
The Tiny Homes program was launched with support from Triumph Gulf Coast and includes training and certification services provided through Pensacola State College.
In addition to developing new programs, PRI continues to invest in modern equipment, technology, and manufacturing processes across its industries. These investments are intended to ensure participants receive training that reflects current workplace standards and industry expectations.
Today, PRI operates as a self-funded organization that receives no taxpayer funding while delivering workforce development programs designed to create meaningful opportunities for participants and positive outcomes for communities throughout Florida.
The 45-year milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on the organization’s growth, its longstanding partnership with the state, and the thousands of individuals who have gained training, certifications, and work experience through PRI programs since 1981.
